Friday Social Program
"Social, Your Way!"FRIDAY SOCIAL PROGRAM
"Build by the clients, for the clients."
The Friday Social Program was born and gained it wings in June 2022. Clients kept telling me about all the amazing things they wanted to do and try with their friends, but didn’t really know how to go about it.
What started with getting two or three client together on a Friday, turned into a social program that the clients have control of. They tell me what they want to do and I ran with it. Constantly thinking of ways to keep building foundational skills in everything I do, I decided the clients would take charge and plan all events they wanted to do.
It starts with a Zoom meeting each month. Clients jump on and see what events are on the calendar. Together (and supported by staff) they plan out the day, how they will get there, times they need to leave, trains they may need to catch, money they need to make sure they have, to checking out menus online to make sure it accommodates everyone and within budget.
Check out the blog to see what events they have put together over the past year!
COOKING CLASSES
Cooking is such a shared goal within the clients that are apart of Life Skills Tutoring. It bring people together and provides so many skills in one activity.
In August 2023, we decided, as part of the Friday Social Program, to expand and offer cooking classes to clients. Working on the same concept as the Friday Social Program, client tell us what they what to cook and skills they want to master. We then put this into a monthly cooking class and with our chef, Kylie, they enjoy a fun day in the kitchen and get to socialise together when enjoying what they cooked.
MEDIA WORKSHOPS
Social media and media in general is such a large part of any young adults life nowadays. And for some it’s hard to navigate on a personal level. With media being such an integral part of our personal and professional lives, it was only fitting we introduce our Media Workshops as part of the Friday Social Program in 2023.
Here the clients get to voice their views, concerns while learning how to use, communicate and navigate all sorts of media. They also get to be creative with projects they want to share with all of you.
These workshops have been creating to help build not just social and communicative skills, but get them ready for the workforce. Receiving feedback, compromising, problem solving, learning to use new programs and even into policies you may come across in the workforce over the use of social media are just a few of the topics covered.
Look out in our blog for the clients media projects they will start to share with you soon!
